Viking boys slam Clay, 22-0

AID — It was a grand performance.

The Symmes Valley Vikings slugged four home runs including two grand slams as they routed the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 22-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Wednesday.

“Our kids keep playing hard and working hard and getting better each night. We’re swinging at better pitches every night,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

J.J. Huff belted two home runs including a grand slam in a 10-run first inning. Cody Bland added a three-run homer in the first inning.

Huff had a two-run homer in the second inning to account for the Viking runs as the lead went to 12-0.

Tyler Easthom hit the Vikings’ second grand slam to highlight the nine-run third inning.

Robbie Powell and Jeremy Hatfield combined to no-hit the Panthers. Powell went four innings and struck out nine while walking one. Hatfield finished and struck out the side.

Easthom finished 3-3, Powell 3-5, Bland 2-3 and Huff 2-2 as the Vikings had 12 hits.

Symmes Valley (6-1, 5-0) will play at Green on Monday, April 27.
