Ross gets four RBI to lead Symmes Valley girls to win

AID — Thanks to Kayla Ross, the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings avoided a loss.

Ross was 2-4 with a double and a two-run homer as she drove in four runs to lead the Lady Vikings to a 5-1win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers on Tuesday.

“It was a good ball game,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep.

“Our pitching was pretty good and Kayla Ross really picked us up on offense.”

Symmes Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Erica Corn singled, Nikki Nance hit into a fielder’s choice, and Jessie Morris singled. Ross then doubled home both runners.

The lead went to 4-0 in the third inning when Chelsea Wall was safe on an error and Ross belted a two-run homer.

Ironton got a run in the top of the fourth inning. Emily Lilly was hit by a pitch, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a base hit by Nikki Elswick.

The Lady Vikings got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Nance walked, moved up on a wild pitch and came home on a hit by Morris.

Lilly was 2-4 for Ironton.

Symmes Valley (8-4) and Ironton play again on Thursday at Dow Chemical.
