SOUTH POINT — Larissa Lael Hillyer, 32, of South Point, died Monday, April 20, 2009.
She was born July 24, 1976, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of Susan Ritterbush Hillyer of Fayetteville, N.C., who is a retired employee of TTA of Huntington and the late Richard Hillyer. Larissa was a disabled U. S. Army veteran. She attended Wayne Middle School and Wayne High School, where she was a member of the marching band. She received an associate’s degree from Devry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Ariz.; she also attended Ohio State University and Marshall University in pursuit of a C.P.A. degree. She received her U.S. Army Basic Training in Ft. Leonardwood, Mo. She was then assigned to Ft. Bliss, Texas as a member of the patriot missile command. She was a member of the first class of the corporal recruiter program. She received the Gold Star Recruiter Award, Army Achievement Metal Award, with two Oak Leaf Clusters and she was the recording secretary of the BRAVER Columbus (OH) Chapter.
In addition to her mother, survivors include a brother, Joe Pomales of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, April Hillyer of South Point, and Marisol Ann Pomales of Fayetteville, N.C.; her paternal grandmother, Greetice Milam of Johnsonville, Tenn. and her maternal grandmother, Joyce Ritterbush of Sweet Home, Ore.,
Inurnment in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Reger Funeral Home, Huntington, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.
