AID — All the rain and different interruptions haven’t seemed to bother Symmes Valley.

The Vikings used a solid all-around effort to beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 10-0 in five innings on Monday in a Southern Ohio Conference game.

Tyler Easthom fired a one-hitter, the offense had 13 hits and the defense did not commit an error as the Vikings improved to 10-1 and 8-0 in the SOC.

“We’re still playing pretty good. We didn’t have any errors and you always like to see no errors on the board. Pitching and defense are what win games for you,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Vikings wasted little time as they scored twice in the first inning.

Eastom and Cody Bland reached on errors and Jeremy Hatfield singled in a run. Luke Taylor singled to load the bases and Dustin Wilson walked to force in a run.

The lead went to 6-0 in the second inning.

Easthom and Bland doubled for a run, Hatfield was hit by a pitch and Taylor unloaded a three-run homer.

Two more runs scored in the third inning and it was 8-0.

Gage Patterson and Easthom singled, they moved up on a passed ball and Robbie Powell and Bland followed with RBI singles.

The final two runs scored in the fourth inning.

J.J. Huff was safe on a fielder’s choice, Patterson walked and Easthom doubled home a run. Powell grounded out as a run scored.

Easthom was 4-4 to back his own pitching. Taylor went 2-3 and Bland 2-4.

Symmes Valley visits Eastern on Tuesday and Portsmouth Notre Dame on Wednesday.
