AID — Symmes Valley may find its electric bill a little larger this month.

The Vikings experienced a power surge as they slugged five home runs and rolled past the South Gallia Rebels 11-1 in five innings on Thursday to win the Division IV sectional title.

The circuit shots helped Robbie Powell notch the win. Powell scattered seven hits, struck out six and walked one.

“We hit the ball really well. Any time you have eight hits and five are home runs, you’ve got to be pleased,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe. “And we played really good defense tonight.”

South Gallia got a run in the first when Zach Haislop singled, stole second and third, and scored on Cory Haner’s bloop single.

But the Vikings came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Tyler Easthom and Powell reached on errors and Cody Bland had a two-run single. Jeremy Hatfield followed with a two-run homer.

The lead went to 7-1 in the third inning when Luke Taylor reached on an error, Ethan Wilson walked and Dustin Wilson unloaded a home run.

The final four runs scored in the fourth inning.

Powell and Bland hit back-to-back home runs to start the inning. Taylor then doubled and Ethan Wilson spanked a two-run homer.

The Vikings will play the Manchester at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Lucasville Valley in the district semifinals.

Symmes Valley visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Friday.
