CHESAPEAKE — This time the Lady Panthers had some offense for their pitcher.

Chesapeake collected 12 hits to back the three-hit pitching of Allison Chapman in a 5-2 win over the Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers on Friday in the Division III sectional championship.

“We hit the ball pretty well and Allison threw pretty well,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice.

Chapman struck out 16 for Chesapeake (23-0) who will play Piketon at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the University of Rio Grande in the district semifinals.

Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Sarah Mayo had a two-out single, stole second and came home on a triple by Sidney Boyle.

The lead went to 2-0 in the third inning when Sarah Rice singled and scored on Chapman’s triple.

A run scored in the fourth to make it 3-0. Hannah Henderson and Casey Kirk singled and Myky Harmon had a one-out double.

Ironton got within 3-2 in the top of the fifth inning.

Brea Tackett and Timmaya Taylor drew one-out walks, they moved up on a ground out and scored on a throwing error.

But Sidney Boyle hit a two-out solo home run as Chesapeake got the run back in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-2.

“That was a big hit by Boyle. They got within one swing of being able to tie the game,” said Rice.

The final run scored in the sixth when Harmon singled, advanced to third base on an overthrow, and scored on a base hit by Sarah Rice.

Nikki Elswick and Karlie Collins had doubles while Jessica Brown singled for Ironton’s hits.
