IRONTON — The yard of Shirley Pinkerman, 719 South Fifth St., was recently named May’s “Yard Of the Month” by Ironton in Bloom.

Mrs. Pinkerman says she started planting roses when she moved into her home 15 years ago and since the first ones grew so well, she just keeps “buying and adding more.” She has about 20 varieties of roses.

She also loves raising iris and has had great success with those as well.

The Ironton in Bloom volunteer organization is in the middle of their yearly fund raising drive to raise the necessary funds for the placement and summer-long maintenance of flowering pots and hanging baskets in the downtown area.
