Meetings set on river pollution rules

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — The Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission is planning a series of public meetings on proposed revisions of its pollution control standards for wastewater discharges.

Informational sessions are scheduled for June 9 in St. Clairsville, Ohio; June 10 in Huntington; June 16 in Clarksville, Ind.; June 17 in Evansville, Ind.; and June 18 in Paducah, Ky.

A public hearing will be held June 24 in Erlanger, Ky.

The commission includes representatives from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, as well as the federal government.

Sisters plead guilty on drug charge

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say two sisters from Huntington have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell crack cocaine.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia says 46-year-old Lisa Diane Bailey and 39-year-old Robin Lee Bailey entered the guilty pleas Tuesday. Both are Huntington residents and daughters of Cabell County Commissioner Bob Bailey.

Prosecutors say investigators purchased crack from Robin Bailey at her home five times earlier this year. They say Lisa Bailey helped with the sales on two occasions.

The sisters face up to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine. Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 31.

Ironton Garden Club to host workshop

IRONTON — The Ironton Garden Club will host a workshop on perfect flower beds, June 2 at 1 p.m. at the Lawrence County Museum.

Everyone is invited to share gardening tips and ideas. Admission is free but donations are accepted.

ATV Fest set for this weekend

HANGING ROCK — The Rock ‘N’ Rally ATV Festival will be held Friday through Sunday at the Hanging Rock ATV Trails.

There will be a poker run, pig roast, GPS hunt, ATV parade, camping, and safety training throughout the trails.

Ironton in Bloom serving spaghetti

IRONTON — Ironton in Bloom is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser, Wednesday, June 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus, 2101 S. 3rd Street in Ironton.

The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Eat in and carry-out only.

IIB will be serving spaghetti with marinara or meat sauce, coleslaw, rolls and a soft drink (carry outs do not include soft drinks).

The funds raised will help Ironton in Bloom support beautification efforts throughout the city.
