SOUTH POINT — Recently 10 South Point teachers – six from the elementary and four from the high school, received the state designation of Master Teacher.

This is a five-year honor that is reported on the state report card.

South Point’s Local Professional Development Committee used state guidelines to grade those from the district who asked to be considered for the honor.

“Teachers needed to show leadership and innovation and that they went above and beyond the normal teaching duties,” Mark Christian, assistant superintendent said.

The five criteria for the designation are consistent leadership, focused collaboration, focus on students and environment, focus on content, instruction and assessment and professional growth.

This is the first year for the Master Teacher Program in Ohio. South Point will consider new applicants for the designation in the fall.
