OUS recognition ceremony set

IRONTON — The Ohio University Southern Annual Student Recognition Ceremony is scheduled for Monday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Bowman Auditorium.

The purpose of this ceremony is to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of OUS students for their exceptional academic acheivement, leadership, and service to Ohio University Southern and our surrounding community.

Alzheimer’s family training June 8

RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s (OLBH) Healthy Community Services (HCS) invites interested area residents to participate in special family caregiver training provided by the Alzheimer’s Association Monday, June 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Boyd County Public Library (1740 Central Avenue, Ashland.)

The program is focused for family caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients.

Information will be provided concerning Alzheimer’s and the session also will be an opportunity to reflect, gain perspective and ask questions of statewide experts who specialize in aging and Alzheimer’s care. Cost of the training is $15 with scholarships available to cover training costs.

The training is designed for family caregivers, and is not open to professional caregivers.

OLBH provides Alzheimer’s assistance and support through HCS’ Senior Services division.

Support includes counseling to understand the disease, how to cope with a diagnosis, home safety techniques, support for the caregiver, how to manage long-distance caregiving and care planning for families.

‘Art in the Park’ set for June 13, 14

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The members of the Tri-State Arts Association announce Art-in-the-Park 2009; with 40 artists exhibiting and selling their work at Ritter Park in Huntington on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, June 14 from 12 pm to 5 pm.

Visitors will be able to chat with the artists and purchase their work or have pieces commissioned.

Bring your favorite person, pet or photo and match it with your favorite artist.

Artwork will include oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, pastels, pottery, woodcarving, photography and other mediums.

Many of these artists are juried members of Tamarack, The Best of WV.

Many of these artists have studios at the Pendleton Art Center in Ashland, Ky.
