FRANKFORT, Ky. — Four Kentucky State Park campgrounds have been listed among America’s “Top 100 Family Campgrounds” by ReserveAmerica.

The four campgrounds are Columbus-Belmont State Park in Columbus; Fort Boonesborough State Park near Richmond; Green River Lake State Park near Campbellsville and Levi Jackson State Park at London.

“Camping continues to be very popular at Kentucky State Parks and we’re proud of all of our campgrounds,” said Parks Commissioner Gerry van der Meer. “Our park campgrounds offer families a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the outdoors.”

To determine the top campgrounds and locations, over 4,000 parks were reviewed and evaluated on criteria including educational programs, overall beauty and scenery, family beaches, visitor centers and camping amenities such as hot showers and laundry facilities.

The featured locations were also selected based on testimonials, campground ratings and feedback provided by park rangers, regional park management and campers throughout the year.

The Kentucky State Parks have 31 campgrounds with 2,600 sites. The sites have water and electric hookups, showers, restrooms and laundry facilities. Information about each park and campground, along with online reservations, is available at www.parks.ky.gov

ReserveAmerica, a recreation reservation service, also honored parks in several other categories. The Kentucky State Parks that were listed include:

Amazing Spots: Carter Caves State Resort Park, Olive Hill; and Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, Corbin.

Bird Watching Spots: John James Audubon State Park, Henderson.

Canoeing Spots: Blue Licks Battlefield State Resort Park, Mount Olivet.

Educational and Historical Facilities: Big Bone Lick State Park, Union; Columbus-Belmont State Park, Columbus; and Fort Boonesborough State Park,Richmond.

Fishing Spots: Greenbo Lake State Resort Park, Greenup; Lake Cumberland State Resort Park, Jamestown.

The Kentucky State Park System is composed of 52 state parks plus an interstate park shared with Virginia. The Department of Parks, an agency of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, operates 17 resort parks with lodges — more than any other state.
