Sentence delayed in pill conspiracy

ASHLAND, Ky. (AP) — A federal judge has allowed a convict in a drug-trafficking conspiracy to delay reporting to prison for health reasons.

The Independent in Ashland reported U.S. District Court Judge David L. Bunning did not set a new date for Rhonda Renee Burchett of Grayson to go to prison for 21 months.

Burchett is one of 14 people who were accused in a Florida-to-Kentucky prescription drug conspiracy in which Dr. Roger Browne of Coral Springs, Fla., was convicted of illegally prescribing OxyContin and other narcotics to hundreds of eastern Kentucky residents.

A motion filed last month by Buchett’s lawyer stated she was traveling to the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky airport on May 17 to fly to Texas and begin her sentence when she was taken to a hospital emergency room.

Books on sale at bargain prices

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — If reading is your thing, you can stock up on a full summer’s worth of good books at the Friends of the Library used book sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday, June 4-6, at the Cabell County Public Library, 455 Ninth St.

Gently used books of all type will be on sale at the great bargain prices that long have been a fixture of the group’s book sales.

Purchase $20 worth of books and you’ll earn a “Book Buck,” a coupon worth $1 at the group’s next book sale. In addition to books, the sale also will offer magazines, audio and video tapes, CDs, DVDs and more.

Sale hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The sale is located on the library’s fourth floor.

Proceeds from the sale, one of three conducted by the Friends of the Library each year, will be used to improve library services and facilities.

WSAZ presents digital TV help clinic

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — WSAZ NewsChannel 3 will present a Digital Television Mobile Help Clinic Friday, June 5 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm at theBig Sandy Superstore Arena Plaza.

This DTV Mobile Help Clinic will have FCC contractors on hand to answer consumer questions about the DTV conversion on June 12. There will be demonstrations of how to connect a converter box to an analog television and

how to make connections with a VCR and other recording devices. The Mobile Help Clinic will answer questions concerning what signals consumers should be receiving as well as offering ideas on how to improve their reception.

Consumers will also be able to apply for a $40 coupon that can be applied to the purchase of a DTV converter box.

‘Day at the Park with Dad’ set

GREENUP, Ky. —Greenbo Lake State Resort Park will host a “Day at the Park With Dad” on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

There will be miniature golf, swimming, tennis, corn hole, hiking, boating, and fishing.

The first 50 dads will receive a free fishing rod and a one year fishing license.

There will be a free cookout at 3 p.m. with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, and drinks. Come in the morning and stay all day.

The entire event is free and door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Rep. Evans to host public meetings

COLUMBUS — State Representative Clyde Evans (R- Rio Grande) will be holding open door public meetings for constituents in southern Ohio.
