DEERING — Amy Lynn Wilcox, 38, of Deering, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at the University Hospital in Cincinnati. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Feb. 3, 1971, the daughter of Kay Dillon Bowman and Gary William Ross both of Ironton.
Amy was a 1989 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School, graduated from Ohio University with her bachelor’s degree in education and currently attended Marshall University pursuing her master’s degree in education. She was a teacher at Collins Career Center where she was an Intervention Specialist specializing in science and social studies, a part of the Data Team, was active in the Fast Forward Reading Program, the Student Focus Program, which was a program to raise money for Christmas gifts for needy children, worked with the Ohio Graduation Test and the High Schools That Work program. Amy was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church in Deering where she was a leader for the AWANAS Program, former Nursery Director, Vacation Bible School Volunteer, also she sang in the choir and was active in the Puppet Ministry.
She was preceded in death by:
maternal grandparents, Sam and Norma Dillon; paternal grandparents, Charlie and Lillian Ross; uncle, Ronald Dillon; aunt, Claudia Nance; stepgrandparents, Elmer and Mary Bowman and Arthur and Ruth Neice.
In addition to her mother and father, she is also survived by her children, Trevor Wilcox and Emily Wilcox, both of Coal Grove; stepmother, Linda Ross; stepfather, Chris Bowman; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Erin and Eddie Neville of Columbus and Kayla Ferguson of Ironton; a brother, Andy Ross of Coal Grove; a niece, Camryn Neville of Columbus; and also survived by a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Dawson-Bryant High School Gymnasium in Coal Grove with Pastor David Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at Dawson-Bryant High School Gymnasium. Phillips Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
