COAL GROVE — With heavy early morning rains last Friday soaking already saturated grounds, the Rocky Top Raceway was forced to postpone the annual Summer Sizzler race until this Friday.

Many of the regions best Late Model drivers are expected to be in attendance to go after the $3,000 top prize in the 35-lap feature and the prestige of being a Summer Sizzler winner. Modifieds, Bombers, and Mod Lites will also be racing for regular purses.

The first Summer Sizzler was held on August 11th, 2006. That race is still considered one of the best races in RTR history as Tim Dohm, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Jackie Boggs had an excellent, three-way battle for the lead the whole race.

Dohm ended up making the winning pass with two laps to go and went on to become the inaugural Summer Sizzler winner.

The following year the race grew even more with one of the largest car counts in RTR history and more top drivers in attendance. R. J. Conley ended up holding off Dohm to become the second Summer Sizzler winner.

The Summer Sizzler is a race that has always drawn in many of the regions top drivers, featured a great car count, and most importantly has produced some of the most exciting racing in RTR history.

Admission prices to the Summer Sizzler are the cheapest they have been in the races history. General admission is only $15 with kids (ages 7-12) general admission $2. Pit admission is $28.

There are no entry fee’s for the race teams.
