Let’s hope the South rises again. In the Ohio High School Football Coaches’ Association North/South All-Star Classic, that is.

The South All-Stars dropped a 49-7 decision to the North on Saturday at Ohio Stadium. The North now leads the series 38-23-3.

Representing the local area on the South team was Ironton defensive end and tight end Michael Lamb and Coal Grove two-way lineman Travis Sherman.

Lamb was a starter at defensive end and Sherman was an offensive tackle for the South.

Being played on the same day was the Big 33 All-Star Game between Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The Ohio stars came away with a 38-31 win over the Keystone State.

Team Effort

Four members of the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ track team celebrated a little Christmas in June.

At the Santa’s Summer Run held Saturday in Piketon, Ironton came away with the team championship trophy.

Adam Stumbo finished second overall in the 5K run and teammate Levi Runyon was right behind in third.

On the girls’ side, Colleen Walker won the 15-19 age division and twin sister Shannon Walker was second in the category.

The awards’ ceremony not only includes medals for the top runners, but also for the best Christmas running outfit. The benefit race uses proceeds to help purchase toys for the needy at Christmas.

New Wardrobe

It’s been awhile since Steven Ater has worn anything but Chesapeake purple. All that is about to change.

A former basketball player and assistant coach for the Panthers, Ater has been named the new boys’ head basketball coach at South Webster.

Ater played for former Chesapeake coach Norm Persin and coached under him for four seasons. He was an assistant to Ryan Davis the past two years.
