COAL GROVE — After two weeks of rainouts, it was finally dry at Rocky Top Raceway for the running of the “3rd Annual Summer Sizzler” paying $3,000 to win for Late Models. Many of the region’s best Late Model drivers were in attendance.

In the Summer Sizzler 35-lap Late Model A-Main, Jackie Boggs and Kenny Christy battled side-by-side for the lead during the races opening laps.

Eddie Carrier Jr. moved his Carl Grover owned machine into the third position to join Boggs and Christy to go three wide for the lead. Boggs was able to hold off all of those challenges until lap ten when Christy made the pass to take the lead.

With Christy leading, Carrier was able to get by Boggs at the race’s midway point to go up and battle side-by-side for the lead.

Christy maintained the lead as Boggs moved back into the second position by lap 27 when the race’s final caution flag would fly. On the restart, Boggs put his machine on the high side and battled side-by-side with Christy.

Christy was able to hold off the challenge as now Boggs and Carrier battled side-by-side for second. Christy pulled away in the race’s final five laps to come across the checkers and win the third annual Summer Sizzler.

Boggs finished second with Carrier Jr. third, Wayne Chinn fourth, and Tim Dohm fifth. Boggs won the dash race while Chinn and Chris Combs won Engines Inc. heat races.

Eddie Harmon took the lead at the start of the 20-lap Modified A-Main. The car on the move early on was South Webster’s Adam Jordan as he moved from sixth to second by lap seven.

Jordan stayed right on Harmon’s bumper the whole race but wasn’t able to make the pass as Harmon took his second feature win in a row. Jordan finished second with Todd Robinson third, Chuck Yeley fourth, and Dave Jamison fifth. Harmon and Robinson won Engines Inc. heat races.

David Dunn took the lead at the start of the 15-lap Bomber A-Main. Hughes stayed tucked behind Dunn until the halfway mark when he got under Dunn’s No. 3 and battled side-by-side for the lead.

The two made contact resulting in Dunn spinning and the caution flag flying. Under the caution, an on track altercation resulted in C. J. Blankenship, Wayne Hughes, and Phil Cox being disqualified.

When the race resumed, Dunn checked out to come to the checkers and claim his second feature win in a row. Chris Maynard finished second with Phil Rice third, Sam Allen fourth, and Jason Aldridge fifth. Dunn and Hughes won Engines Inc. heat races.

Chris Stone took the lead at the start of the Mod Lite A-Main and went on to dominate to take his second win in a row.

Randy Armes finished second with Kevin Kuhn third, Tony Sites fourth, and Mark Noel fifth. Stone won the Engines Inc. heat race.

This Friday will be “Meet the Drivers Night.” To add to the show, it will be a Modified special event as drivers will be racing for $1,000 to win along with Late Models-$1,500 to win, Bombers-$350 to win, and Mod Lites-$300 to win.

General Admission is $12 with kids (ages 7-12) admission $2 and pit admission $25. Gates open at 4 p.m. with Hot Laps starting the nights action at 7:30. For more information visit www.rockytopraceway.net.
