AMVETS make donation to Open Door School

IRONTON — The AMVETS Post 5293 recently donated a popcorn machine to the Open Door School.

The students and staff look forward to using the popcorn machine to make popcorn for the Open Door School home basketball games, Awards Day at the end of each school year and at class parties throughout the year.

Members of the AMVETS who presented the donation to Open Door School Principal, Kendra Kelley, included Miles Lewis, Commander of Post, Bob Gibson, 1st Vice Commander, Lloyd Wilson, Curtis Faulkner, Ronnie Welch and Roger Adams, Chaplain.

“We are veterans helping veterans and the community,” said Miles Lewis, Commander of Post 5293, located at 315 S. Third St. in Ironton.

As a program of the Lawrence County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, the Open Door School is certified by the Ohio Department of Education and accredited by the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities.

The school serves more than 60 students with multiple handicaps ages 6 – 21 from all Lawrence County areas.
