The state allows one day each June for a limit of 400 visitors, obtained by lottery, and other groups by special arrangement. The Bog is a remnant of the glacial era.

The trip also included a tour of the The Dawes Arboretum, a walking tour of Granville, Ohio, and a stop at the Wahkeena Preserve, a project of the OAGC, Region 10 and the Rock Hill Garden Clubs.
