ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP — One down, a few more to go.

The Rock Hill Board of Education Monday evening hired a new band director; vacancies in a few other areas were discussed but no action was taken on them.

The board hired Nick Basham as both a teacher and band director. A graduate of neighboring Green High School, Basham was band director at Patrick Henry High School in Northwest Ohio before spending six years in the Hamler Local School District.

Basham replaces Scott Jones, who resigned after admitting to sexual misconduct with two students.

The board went into executive session to discuss that position as well as that of the superintendent, Title 1 (federal programs) coordinator and some other teaching positions.

No action was taken on any of the other vacancies, however.

“Things are progressing well, there’s nothing new to report,” Board President Dennie Hankins said of the superintendent’s search.

The board has chosen not to give Superintendent Lloyd Evans a new contract. Evans’ expires July 31. Teresa Robinson, who served as Title I coordinator, has retired.
