Pokemon & Yu-Gi-Oh Game Day is July 11

ASHLAND, Ky. — A monthly chance for collectors of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards to trade and duel is coming up Saturday, July 11, at Boyd County Public Library.

Pokemon & Yu-Gi Oh Game Days is on the second Saturday of each month this summer, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave. The program is designed for children 5-12.

Those who attend can take part in “duels” and teach each other how to “battle” with their cards. Card trading is also allowed. Parents are encouraged to supervise the trading.

Court cuts juvenile referee system

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – Cabell County judicial officials say they’re disappointed by the West Virginia Supreme Court’s decision to eliminate the state’s juvenile referee system.

According to the court’s Web site, two full-time juvenile referees and one part-time referee serve Kanawha, Cabell, and Wayne counties. The Herald-Dispatch reports that those positions are being terminated, effective Sept. 1.

The newspaper says the decision stemmed from interest in the program voiced by judges in other parts of the state. Copies of the termination letters obtained by The Herald-Dispatch say the court’s budget can’t support expanding the program.

The referees’ duties include holding detention hearings for juveniles. They give juvenile offenders an opportunity to participate in an improvement program.
