WILLOW WOOD — Gwendolyn “Jewel” Fry, 78, of Willow Wood, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from her daughter’s residence in Crown City.
The Wilgus native was born Feb. 14, 1931, the daughter of the late Homer L. and Mary A. Cheatwood Justice. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jason E. Fry, whom she married June 4, 1948.
Mrs. Fry was a 1948 graduate of Waterloo High School and a former nurse’s aide for Jo-Lin Health Center as well as Bryant’s Health Care. She was an active member of Fairview Missionary Baptist Church, until the time of her illness, Buckeye Grange 1712, Mason Township Election worker and a former 4-H Adviser. She also worked as a private duty caregiver and lived all her life in this area.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Homer Leon Justice, and a sister, Lois Myers.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis “Polly” and Fred Pernestti of Willow Wood, Frances and Garland Montgomery of Crown City and Gwendolyn Susie and George Roush of Wheelersburg; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Earl “Buddy” and Mickee Fry and Darrell Fry all of Willow Wood and Richard “Rick” and Cindy Fry of South Point; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Donna Justice of Willow Wood; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ernestine and James Rose of Columbus and Wanda Dennison of Ashland, Ky.; 13 grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Gwendolyn McGraw, who helped take care of her; 11 great grandchildren, as well as several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; and two special care givers, Mary Parsons and Brenda Spurlock.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Wilgus Fairview Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Garland Montgomery and the Rev. Eddie Neel officiating. Burial will follow in Wilgus Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. today at Phillips Funeral Home.
