Local and regional authors are spotlighted this week at Briggs Lawrence County Public Library.

Local author Lisa Cooke will talk about her exciting first book, the historical romance, “Texas Hold Him,” and explain how it was published. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and will be autographed by the author at 6 p.m. Monday at the South Point library.

Local author Jesse Stuart left a legacy of great literature. Today, the Jesse Stuart Foundation continues to promote local authors and Kentucky folklore. Dr. James M. Gifford will share information about Jesse Stuart and other local authors, plus tell about the foundation, its bookstore and more at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ironton Library.

Inspirational romance fiction author Irene B. Brand will talk about writing romance books, how to get published, and share from her work. The West Virginia author has written 45 novels with more than 2 million copies in print. Copies of her books will be available for purchase and will be autographed by the author at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Proctorville library.

Show off your singing skills by participating in Briggs Library’s first open mike and karaoke night at 6 p.m. Thursday. Bring your own music or choose from our selection. For information call Lori Shaffer at 532-1124.

There will be a basic computer class for seniors ages 55 and up at the Chesapeake Branch Library at 11 a.m. Thursday. Class size is limited to seven participants. For information call 867-3390.

The “Briggs Theater Presents” film series offers free Monday Movie Matinees throughout July and August in the auditorium at the Main Library in Ironton. This Monday, everyone’s invited to bring a snack and a friend to enjoy “Summer Stock” at 2 p.m. and “Summer Rental” at 6 p.m.

Everyone’s invited to bring a snack and a friend for the “Classic Movie of the Month” at the Chesapeake Branch Library at 2 p.m. Thursday. You’ll enjoy Doris Day and Cary Grant in the 1962 romantic comedy, “That Touch of Mink.”
