New recycling trailers added to city

IRONTON — The Lawrence-Scioto Solid Waste Management District has added two recycling trailers at 1007 N. Second St., on the former Citti’s grocery store property.

These bins are in addition to more than other bins located throughout the county.

All recycling trailers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Acceptable items are paper, plastic 1 (beverage bottles) and #2 (milk and juice jugs, liquid detergent bottles, trash bags, etc.), aluminum, glass and steel cans.

The other recycling containers at Lawrence County Municipal Court on County Road 1 in Chesapeake, the Perry Township Fire Department on County Road 1 in Sheridan, at Food Fair on State Route 7 in Proctorville, at Food Fair on Solida Road in South Point, at Sam’s Club in Burlington, at both stations of the Rome Township Volunteer Fire Department on State Route 7, at the Coal Grove Village Hall on Carlton-Davidson Lane and at the U.S. Forestry service office on State Route 93 in Elizabeth Township.

Benefit ride planned for Saturday

ASHLAND, Ky. — A benefit-fundraiser is planned for Saturday in memory the family of an Ashland, Ky., couple killed in a motorcycle accident last year.

The fundraiser will begin at noon at Frogtown U.S.A. on South Third Street. There will be a bike ride, a 50/50 split the pot, raffles and door prizes.

There will also be live music by local music artists LastChantz, Burning Creek and Stephens Salyers.

Donations are accepted; there is no charge for the music.

A fee will be charged for participation in the bike run.

The cost for it is $15 for a single rider and $20 for doubles.

The fundraiser is in memory of Chuck and Denise Leadingham, who were killed in a motorcycle accident in August 2008.

Chuck Leadingham was an Ashland, Ky., police officer; Denise Leadingham worked at the Federal Correctional Institute in Summit, Ky.

Proceeds will go to the local Shop With A Cop program and the FCI children’s Christmas party.

Fund-raiser set for WNF

HANGING ROCK — The fundraiser will be held at Wayne National Forest, Hanging Rock Trails in Hanging Rock Village, Sunday from 10a.m. until 6 p.m. 

There will be a $10 donation taken at time of registration. 

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life. 

Participants must be 16 years and older and are required to have a Trail Permit which can be purchased at the Red Brick Oven and Hops in Hanging Rock for $12. 

All participants are also required to have an Ohio State Sticker.  There will be a bake sale, pizza, and split the pot.
