Herd’s Snyder to be Magic guest DJ

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Magic 97.9’s “Guest DJ” feature enters its 16th month with Marshall University Head Football Coach Mark Snyder behind the microphone.

Snyder will tell stories and update listeners on his plans for the pre-season, the latest poll that picks Herd to finish 5th in C-USA East and spin a song or two.

Mark Snyder will join J.B. Miller and former Herd player Jason Toy at 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Miller in the Morning kicked off his “Guest DJ” segment in 2008 and has welcomed guests from all over the Tri-State. Make a memory board at Summit

SUMMIT, Ky. — Patrons can make their own memory board at a special program at the Summit Branch of Boyd County Public Library on Aug. 10.

The program is part of the weekly Piece-ing it Together Craft Club, which meets each Monday at 6 p.m. at the branch, 1016 Summit Road. Once a month, there is a take-home craft, for which the library purchases supplies. The rest of the time, people can practice their own hobby, teach someone else or learn something new.

The Sept. 14 craft program is “learn to knit.”

Computer classes focus on Internet

SUMMIT, Ky. — Boyd County Public Library is again offering free computer classes at the Summit Branch in August and September.

In August, the topic will be the basics of using a computer and the Internet. The class is composed of two parts – Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. – and will repeat four times during the month. Participants need to attend both classes in a week.

September’s classes will be on the basics of Excel and will take place four times – each Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. There will be a practice session at the same time on Thursdays in September. Those who take the Excel class need to know how to use a mouse and a keyboard.

OLBH to host group for breast cancer

RUSSELL, Ky. —Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will relaunch its breast cancer support group with a free informational luncheon Thursday, Aug. 6 at noon on the 5th floor of Bellefonte Center (1000 Ashland Drive.)

Attendees at the luncheon will learn about OLBH’s Look Good, Feel Better program, genetic testing, clinical trials, breast MRI and the importance of support groups when faced with a diagnosis of breast cancer.
