WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Charlie Wilson (OH-6) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Science Foundation have all released funding for projects throughout Ohio’s Sixth District.

PUBLIC

TRANSPORTATION

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Transit Authority will award Washington County $393,234 as part of the Recovery Act.

The funds will go towards the purchase of a new bus for the Marietta Intermodal Center.

CLEAN WATER

According to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the village of Sebring in Mahoning County received almost $2.5 million in Recovery Act funds as part of the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, which provides assistance to help communities with water quality and wastewater infrastructure needs.

The money, combined with a low-interest $2.5 million loan from the Water Pollution Control Fund, will go towards constructing a new equalization tank system to eliminate bypasses of the wastewater treatment plant. A larger pipe will be installed to alleviate sewer backups in the western part of the village. The project will reduce destruction to the Mahoning River and remove the potential for public contact with untreated sewage due to sewer backups.

FOREST FACILITIES AND TRAILS

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Ohio’s Sixth District will receive $1,705,000 for forest facilities and related ecosystems and watersheds.

In Lawrence County, $130,000 will go towards a high hazard dam repair project, and $275,000 for a new furnace for a toilet sewer system. $1.3 million of Recovery funds is also set to go to trail maintenance and gravel work in the Wayne National Forest.

SCIENCE RESEARCH

According to the National Science Foundation, Ohio University is set to receive $1,004,617 for four scientific studies in fields including electrical engineering and computer science, biology and psychology.

As of mid-July, $183 Billion in Recovery money has been obligated, 20,000 projects are already underway across the country, and $43 billion in Tax Relief has gone out. In total, $226 billion has been injected into our national economy. (28.8% of the $787 billion Recovery & Reinvestment Act)
