ELIZABETH TOWNSHIP — The new leadership in the Rock Hill Local School District is taking its place, one position at a time.

At a special meeting Tuesday evening, the board voted to hire Eric Floyd as Title I coordinator, also known as federal programs coordinator. Floyd was one of more than 18 applicants who submitted a resume for the superintendent’s position and Board President Dennie Hankins said while Floyd didn’t get the top spot then, he did get noticed.

“He had applied and impressed the board for the superintendent’s position,” Hankins said. “He met the qualifications for the position as designated and has over 13 years experience at the Ohio River Valley Juvenile Corrections Facility.”

Floyd is the educational administrator at the juvenile center. As such, he administers the Federal Striving Readers Grant program and is also involved in professional development, building community relationships between the facility and other entities and instructional coaching.

During his tenure he also supervised various educational programs at the center.

Floyd’s employment is effective today.

“I’m excited and look forward to working with Mr. (Superintendent Wes) Hairston and all of the employees at Rock Hill,” Floyd said when contacted after the meeting.

The board also hired Julie Mootz as a high school science teacher, Candy Cochran as a teacher in the emotional disabilities unit at the elementary school and Michael Waller as high school intervention specialist.

The board also agreed to meet in special session at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 to consider other personnel action as well as discuss bus transportation routes. That meeting will be at the child development center.
