Sara Evans on stage at Paramount

ASHLAND, Ky. — Tickets are available to see Sara Evans, Friday at 8 p.m. at the Paramount Arts Center.

Evans is recognized as one of the most successful artists of her generation with accolades including the Academy of Country Music’s Female Vocalist of the Year and the Country Music Association’s Video of the Year for “Born to Fly.”

‘Back to School Night’ set at Fairland

PROCTORVILLE — Fairland West Elementary will host the annual “Back to School Night” on Monday, August 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

An orientation for third grade parents and newly registered students will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.

The school is currently enrolling new students daily between 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students in the Fairland District who will be enrolled in third, fourth or fifth grades will attend Fairland West. Call the school for information at 740-886-3150.

PAC changes lineup of performers

ASHLAND, Ky. — Tickets on sale for Bobby Vee and Friends, Thursday, Aug. 27, 8 p.m. at the Paramount Arts Center, with a change in the lineup of performers. Bobby Vee will be joined by Fabian, Shirley Alston Reeves (original lead singer of the Shirelles) and Johnny Tillotson.

Fabian is an addition to the original lineup and will replace Peter and Gordon, following the recent death of Gordon Waller.

Proposals would ban texting while driving

COLUMBUS (AP) — Ohio lawmakers are offering proposals to make the state one of a growing number that ban text messaging while driving.

Three bills have been introduced in the Ohio House that include prohibitions on texting behind the wheel, and at least one more bill is on the way.

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Robert Hagan says it’s ridiculous to even try to send a text while driving. The Youngstown Democrat says a ban of some sort seems like a reasonable idea.
