ASHLAND, Ky. — Donald C. Jenkins, 79, of Ashland, formerly of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at the Community Hospice Care Center.
The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Jan. 30, 1930 the son of the late Carlton and Catherine Albrecht Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Armilda “Sue” Massie Jenkins whom he married Dec.19, 1954.
Donald was a graduate of Ironton High School and received his associates degree from Ashland Jr. College. Mr. Jenkins was a produce manager at Kroger’s in Ironton and retired in 1988. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, and was active in Emmaus of Ashland, Men’s prayer and volunteered in the mission.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jenkins is preceded in death by a brother, Beryl Jenkins.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by, two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Michael Payne of Richmond, Va., and Rae Ann and Tim Mains of Ironton; a son and his fiancé, David B. Jenkins and Robin Blas of Point Pleasant, W.Va. and eight grandchildren, Aaron and Ashley Payne, Chris Payne, Justin Payne, Catie and David Saunders, Mark and Heather Mains, Andrew Mains, Kyle Jenkins, Krysta Jenkins.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church, 1811 Carter Avenue, Ashland, Ky., with the Rev. Gene Pillow officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hayes-Phillips Funeral Home.
