WILMINGTON — Gladys M. (Derifield) Hunter, 87, of Wilmington, passed from this life at 12:27 a.m. Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 2009, at her home with her family at her bedside.
Mrs. Hunter was born Sunday, Dec. 18, 1921, in Lawrence County, Ky., a daughter of the late Charles & Mary (Kitchen) Derifield.
She retired from General Motors, in Dayton, Ohio. She enjoyed nature and her flower garden.
Surviving are her son, Charles “Chuck” Carter Jr and his wife, Barbara of Waverly, a daughter, Mary Lou Stovall of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Michael (Jackie) Carter of Piketon, Kelly (Chris) Brown and Angela Dunaway, both of Lebanon; three great-grandchildren, Brittany Eades, Austin Duncan and Lauren Carter; three brothers, David Derifield, of Ironton, James (Jinx) Derifield, of Ashland, and Charles Derifield Jr, of Gallipolis; a sister, Beatrice (Vernon) Stuckey, of Orville, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Carter, Grady Blair and Dwight Burdette Hunter; three brothers, Chester, Dewey and Ronnie; two sisters, Evilene and Mabel and a grandson, Brian.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Delawder officiating. Interment will follow in the Ice Creek Cemetery, Ironton. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Ironton.
