ASHLAND, Ky. — A free hunting safety course approved by the Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife takes place at Boyd County Public Library this month.

Aim for Safety is a three-part class, and will be taught by Gene Lebrun, an instructor for the fish and wildlife department.

The first two will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch, 1740 Central Ave.

The final part will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Northeastern Kentucky Fish and Game Club, at a time arranged with the instructor.

The last session will include a written exam and live fire exercise.

In order to complete the course, participants must attend all three sessions. The course is open to anyone 12 years or older.

The course components include: hunting ethics, wildlife identification and conservation, field care of game, trapping, first aid, firearm safety, and archery and muzzle loading.
