HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Employees at Cabell Huntington Hospital, the Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Marshall University Medical Center recently donated more than 469 nursing scrub tops, bottoms and shoes to Dress for Success River Cities.

Cabell Huntington’s Registered Nurse Practice Council organized the project to help new clients of Dress for Success by outfitting healthcare workers beginning their careers and in need of uniforms.

Donations far exceeded the goal of the project that was held throughout July at the Marshall University Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Dress for Success River Cities has already helped 100 clients in 2009 by providing them with clothing for job interviews and also outfitting women for their first week of work. The addition of scrub tops, scrub bottoms and sets is new for 2009, according to Jessica Graham, incoming executive director of Dress for Success River Cities.

“I didn’t realize how expensive scrubs can be,” Graham said. “The medical scrubs donated by Cabell Huntington and Marshall University staff represent a $400 value for each woman who comes through our doors and who is going into the health care industry. At a time when she has already made the investment in training, but has to wait for that first paycheck, this is the last piece of the puzzle in terms of getting her ready to work.”
