IRONTON — Rally on the River 2009 was successful, organizers said Tuesday; local law enforcement said in spite of its size, the motorcycle enthusiasts’ weekend was fairly uneventful.

Friends of Ironton member Jodi Rowe-Collins said no financial figures are available yet but she thinks the rally no doubt had a positive economic impact, especially in terms of money spent for meals and lodging.

“I think we accomplished our goal of bringing people into town to spend money,” Rowe-Collins said.

The annual biker rally brought an estimated 25,000- 30,000 people into Ironton. Both Police Chief Jim Carey and Sheriff Jeff Lawless said the rally spawned no major criminal incidents and the preponderance of arrests were of local people not associated in any way with the rally.

“For the amount of people we had I think things went extremely well,” Carey said.

Rowe-Collins said while most of the events were well attended, the major draw seemed to be radio personalities Lex and Terry, who greeted fans at two receptions, one Friday and one Saturday.

“People stood in line forever and ever Saturday for that one,” Rowe-Collins said. “Lex and Terry were definitely a hit.”
