BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — Give the Ironton Fighting Tigers’ golf team an “A-minus.”

Ironton faced its first big test of the season and finished third in the tough 19-team field of the Huntington Invitational Saturday.

The Huntington tournament is different from other similar events. Teams play five golfers but all five scores are counted instead of the top four.

Hurricane had a 381 score to win the tournament. Cabell Midland was second at 383 and had the medalist as Brooke Bellomy shot a 69.

Ironton posted a 398 score as only three teams posted totals under 400.

Andy Holtzapfel led Ironton with a 76 and Mason Weisgarber carded a 79. Jonathan Williams was one stroke back at 80, Josh Zornes shot an 81 and Josh Mullins finished with an 82.

Chesapeake posted a 429 total with Nick Duffield shooting a 76 for the Panthers. Seth Waggoner had an 82, Gunner Hill an 84, Nathan Copley shot an 88 and Seth Ransbottom finished with a 99.

Fairland posted a 501 team score. Dalton Froelich shot an 84 and Jared Boster an 89 to pace the Dragons.

Ironton will host Fairland Monday at the Ironton Country Club.
