Children’s clinic set for Thursday

SOUTH POINT — There will be an immunization clinic sponsored by the Lawrence County Health Department.

It will take place at the Early Childhood Center, 1749 County Road 1, South Point from 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday.

Free immunizations will be given to ensure children are vaccinated per school requirements.

Marshall seeks riders for club equestrian team

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University is holding tryouts for its club equestrian team.

The tryouts for the 2009-10 season are scheduled to be held Aug. 29 at Royal Winds Farm in Ona.

Coach Bille Rae Graham says undergraduate students of all levels of experience are eligible.

To prepare for competition, team riders are required to take one weekly lesson with Graham and pay membership fees and team dues.

The team competes in horse shows against other colleges from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

OLBH hosts blood drive Sept. 2

RUSSELL, Ky. — Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH), in conjunction with the American Red Cross, will conduct a blood drive Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the hospital campus. The bloodmobile will set up in the parking lot of the hospital’s Materials Management Department.

Donating blood is safe and relatively painless. Trained nurses conduct the donation process and sterile equipment is used.

Donations can help people suffering from a variety of health problems including anemia, bone diseases, lung diseases, kidney diseases, leukemia and many others. Donors should be at least 17 years old, weigh 110 pounds and be in generally good health. Refreshments will be provided to participants.

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments can be scheduled.
