IRONTON — In an effort to curb the spread of the H1N1 virus, the Lawrence County Health Department is sending letters along with an informational flyer to the parents or guardians of all school-age children countywide.

The letter, signed by Lawrence County Health Commissioner Dr. Kurt Hoffman, outlines the current statistics of the H1N1 virus (also know as “swine flu”) on children and prevention methods that both children and families can do to inhibit the spread of the virus.

Currently, the largest number of H1N1 cases has been found in school-age children and young adults ages 5-24. The letter also touches on the flu clinics the county health department holds in the fall.

The color flyer, which was created by the Centers of Disease Control and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, gives information on the flu along with how to protect your children from it and what to do if a child does become infected with the H1N1 virus.
