FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. — Contractors expect to start work next week on a $20 million rehab of Interstate 64 in Boyd County. Embankment repairs between the Cannonsburg and Catlettsburg exits will require one lane of the interstate to be closed beginning Monday, Aug. 31, at the following locations:

 On westbound I-64, approximately two miles west of the US 23 interchange.

 On eastbound I-64, approximately one mile east of the KY 180-Cannonsburg interchange.

Overall, the project includes resurfacing the interstate with a new layer of blacktop as well as general roadway and bridge repairs along eight miles of highway from the Big Sandy River bridge near US 23 to just east of Coalton.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded a $20,127,064 contract to Mountain Enterprises Inc. for the work.

Embankment and bridge repairs will take place now through winter, followed by paving operations next spring.

The project is expected to be complete by November 2010. Traffic control measures will be announced as the project progresses.

Motorists should watch for lane closures and “Drive Smart” in all work zones.
