PROCTORVILLE — Sammy Wentz Casella, 59, of Proctorville, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at his home after a 10-month-long battle with leukemia.
He was born Jan. 31, 1950, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of Dorothy Wenzel Casella and the late Frank Casella.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army and served two years at Ft. Hood, Texas. He was a meat cutter for Kroger for 40 years. His signature smile, love for the outdoors and hard work ethic will never be forgotten.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Dianne Carey Casella; daughter, Samantha Casella; son and daughter-in-law, Johnathan and Jamie Casella, all of Proctorville; grandson, Jace Hunter Casella; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen and Richard Bennett of Proctorville, and JoAnn and David Eagle, Tammy and Tim Williams, all of South Point; nieces, Josi Ann Eagle and Jewelia Williams; nephew, Joshua Eagle; special friends who became a part of his life, Dr. Gabriela Ballester, Marion, Linda, and all oncology staff at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Special thanks to all the area congregations for all the prayers and support throughout his illness. Our lives are now forever changed.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Beard Mortuary with Pastor Don Irby officiating. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m.Sunday, at the mortuary.
