OLBH to salute ‘Simply Green’ honorees at annual black-tie party

RUSSELL, Ky. — Representative Tanya Pullin and Rajkumar Warrier,, M.D. have been announced as the honorees for Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital’s (OLBH) Simply Green Simply Green is OLBH’s sixth black-tie cocktail, dinner and dance party which takes place Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bellefonte Pavilion (2000 Ashland Drive) on the OLBH campus.

As part of the evening’s celebration, OLBH will present its Community Leader Award to Representative Tanya Pullin. Pullin has served Kentucky’s House District 98 since being elected in 2001.

A Greenup County native, Pullin chairs the House of Representatives’ Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee and is the first woman ever appointed to chair this important committee for the House.

Pullin earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Kentucky and her law degree from the University of Kentucky’s College of Law.

Pullin earned a certificate of international law from the Faculty of Law at Uppsala University in Sweden and a master’s degree from Duke University.

A past member of the OLBH Board of Directors and Foundation Board, Pullin has consistently supported OLBH initiatives. She also is a member of the Ashland Alliance, Kiwanis, and is a Governor’s Cup Quick Recall Moderator.

Pullin has been awarded and recognized for her many contributions to her district and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

She received the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture’s Outstanding Achievement Alumni Award and has been inducted into the University of Kentucky’s School of Human Environmental Science’s Hall of Fame.

The sixth-annual Physician Hero Award will be presented to long-time OLBH gastroenterologist Rajkumar Warrier, M.D. Warrier and wife, Bala, have made significant contributions to the hospital’s history and have been constant supporters of the OLBH mission.

Warrier is a previous member of the OLBH Board of Directors, has served as chief of staff and

is an active member of the OLBH Credentialing Committee. He opened his practice in 1980 as the Ashland area’s first gastroenterologist where he has helped thousands of patients during his three decades serving the Tri-State.

He was instrumental in developing the OLBH Behavioral Health program that has since grown to be the area’s resource for behavioral and chemical dependency issues.

Warrier earned his medical degree from the University of Kerala in India and completed an internship, residency and fellowship at Coney Island Hospital in Brooklyn.

He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with subspecialty certification in gastroenterology.

Proceeds from Simply Green will support OLBH through the OLBH Foundation’s capital campaign, Continuing the Legacy.

Continuing the Legacy has an overall fundraising goal of $4 million for program development, technology and facility enhancement. Additionally, two percent of Simply Green ticket proceeds will be used to support green initiatives at OLBH.

This year’s event co-chairs are Charles Rhodes, M.D., and Dottie Rhodes and Larry and Debbie Jones.

A silent auction, which will include some eco-friendly items, will take place at the event.
