Coal Grove girls win VB opener

SCIOTOVILLE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets went straight to work.

Opening their volleyball season on Monday, the Lady Hornets took a straight sets win over the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans 25-21, 25-20 ad 25-17.

Chelsea Delong had 16 points and 6 kills to pace the Lady Hornets win. Haley Johnson had a big game with 18 points and 5 aces and Kelly McMackin turned in a solid performance with 14 points including 7 aces.

The in junior varsity match, Coal Grove won in straight sets 25-10, 25-11.

Cami Hillier led Coal Grove with 12 points. Lacey Sammett added 9 points and Darrien Hankins scored 8.

The Lady Hornets visit St. Joseph Wednesday.

Redwomen Freshmen

PEDRO — The Gallipolis Blue Angels slipped past the Rock Hill Redwomen freshmen in a three-set volleyball match Tuesday.

Rock Hill fell 25-9, then won 29-26 before falling 28-26 in the decisive game.

Becky Donley had 16 points to lead the Redwomen. Also playing well were Katie Johnson who controlled the floor with her setting, Brooke Knipp with several outstanding digs, and Tommi Butler who was dominating at the net.
