Wayne (1-0) at Chesapeake (0-1)

Maybe the Wayne Pioneers need to do some patch work, but the patches that return are far from worn.

Wayne had to fill 11 different positions from last year’s 11-2 team including three-year starting quarterback Joey Ferguson.

Helping to ease the voids is senior running back Corey Damron who led the team with 1,300 yards rushing last year. Looking to fill the other spots are Clyde Ferrell, Jake Barr, Austin Mills and Randal Elliott.

The offensive line holds the key for the Pioneers with three-year veterans Mike Davis and Garrett Rowe. Also back is Justin Ruggles.

“I thought Wayne had the best line we saw last year and most of them are back,” said Panthers coach Phil Davis.

Meigs (0-1) at Fairland (0-1)

PROCTORVILLE — This game could be a picture of contrast.

Fairland gave a strong defensive effort last week in a 15-14 loss at Portsmouth West. The Dragons held West in check until the final quarter.

Meigs lost 44-42 to Coal Grove as tailback Jeremy Smith ran for 160 yards and four touchdowns. Quarterback Jacob Well was 14-of-33 for 160 yards.

South Point (0-1) at

Wheelersburg (0-1)

WHEELERSBURG — The South Point Pointers got the Wheelersburg Pirates right where they want them: Between Ironton and Cleveland Villa Angela.

South Point would like nothing better than to catch the Pirates looking back at their loss to Ironton and ahead to another Division IV power.

The Pointers saw a 6-2 lead disappear in the second half as they lost 24-14 to Portsmouth. They threw a scare at the Pirates last season as Wheelersburg scored in the fourth quarter to escape with a 28-20 win.

Rock Hill (0-1) at

Lucasville Valley (1-0)

LUCASVILLE — If anything could go wrong, it did for the Rock Hill Redmen last week in a 52-13 loss at Zane Trace.

The Redmen must eliminate mistakes and slow down the Indians offense led by Alex Holcomb who scored three touchdowns in a 42-0 rout of Huntington Ross. Running the offense is veteran quarterback Zach Utley who threw for two scores.

Symmes Valley (1-0) at

Fairfield Christian (0-1)

LANCASTER — A good start needs a good follow up.

The Symmes Valley Vikings opened with a 26-6 win over Racine Southern last week and they would like nothing better than to keep the momentum going.

Fairfield Christian lost 15-7 as the Knights began their second season of varsity football. They were 4-2 last season including a 66-7 loss to Grove City Christian.

“We expect a good game,” said Vikings coach Rusty Webb. “They lost a close game to Millersport and they usually have good teams. And it’s always tough when you go on the road.”

Fort Frye (1-0) at Green (1-0)

FRANKLIN FURANCE — The Fort Frye Cadets bring a veteran team with an explosive offense to Green.

In last week’s 48-17 win over River, the Cadets rolled up 429 yards including 167 on 14 carries by quarterback Tanner Robinson. Tailback David Rabourn ran 11 times for 106 yards while Justin Ellis added 82 yards on 13 carries and had three touchdowns.
