PINE GROVE — It’s a safe bet that defending champion John Gagai didn’t mind being dethroned this time.
Gagai won his 12th Ironton Country Club Barney Hannon Championship last year, more than anyone in club history.
But Gagai probably wasn’t as upset he didn’t win this year’s club title because he finished runner-up to his son, Dennis.
Both golfers shot a 294 total over the three-day tournament to force a playoff. Dennis won the tournament in the playoff.
The father and son tandem won the Am-Am at Franklin Valley near Jackson last summer with Dennis the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Dennis is a junior guard for the Northern Kentucky Norsemen basketball team.
In the Seniors Division, Bud Christian finished first with a 143 score, just two shots ahead of Greg Justice. Chuck Davis had a 149 to finish third.
Marty Lewis had a 156 score to win the Super Seniors title. Carlos Willis was second with a 166.
In the Ladies Division, Becky Dillow was the club champion with a 170 score. Jane Mains took second place with a 173 and Mary K. Washburn was third at 176.
