Lady Dragons win in straight sets

CHESAPEAKE — The Fairland Lady Dragons went straight to work and did their job in a straight manner.

Fairland took a straight sets Ohio Valley Conference victory Thursday over the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 25-13, 25-11 and 25-11.

“We played well, but Fairland served well,” said Chesapeake coach Dana Edwards. “Coach (Missy) Gorby has done a good job with them. They served us to death.”

Cori Gaeger scored 17 points for the Lady Dragons who also got nine aces from Sashe Burcham and four from Kennon Clarkson.

The Lady Dragons improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the OVC.

Chesapeake (1-4) was paced by the play of Amanda Ruffner, Courtney Heffner and Kristen Webb.

In the reserve match, Fairland won 25-18, 25-14. Carly Riley scored 13 points to lead Fairland along with the play of Jaime Phillips. Chesapeake’s top players were Beth McWhorter and Alex Fraback.

Fairland hosts Ironton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday while Chesapeake is at home Tuesday against South Gallia at 5:30.
