PROCTORVILLE — In terms of offensive plays, the Tolsia Rebels rolled as they ran 67 to just 36 for the Fairland Dragons.

But it was what the Dragons did with their 36 plays that were the difference as they rolled the Rebels 52-14 Friday night.

Fairland had scoring drives that lasted two, two, one, two, five and three plays as their quick-strike offense produced 615 total yards.

“We’re just looking at what the defense gives us and we’re taking what they give us,” said Fairland head coach Dave Carroll. “We’ve got six or seven guys who can take it the distance at any time.”

Heading the big plays was quarterback Chad Fisher who ran seven times for 84 yards and completed 5-of-12 for 216 yards and three touchdowns.

Matt Bloomfield ran seven times for 110 yards and caught two passes for 81 yards as he scored twice.

Tolsia (0-2) took a 6-0 lead on an 18-yard run by Michael Stevens. Fairland came back to tie the game on a 46-yard run by Fisher.

The key play came midway through the second quarter after Fairland took over after a punt rolled dead at the 4-yard line..

On second down, Fisher hooked up with Kyle Taubenheim on a 94-yard touchdown pass keyed by a block by Matt Campbell that took out three defenders.

“After the first quarter we started playing a little better,” said Carroll.

Fisher threw 41 yards to Tyler Duty for a touchdown with 1:11 left in the half, then got the ball back and hit Bloomfield for 53 yards and a score with just 17 seconds on the clock to make it 26-6.

Fairland (2-1) picked up the scoring in the third quarter when Bloomfield bolted 61 yards for a touchdown.

After Virgil Salmons had an 8-yard scoring run for Tolsia and Kyle Crum added the conversion run, Fairland’s lead was 32-14.

But Fisher’s 2-yard run extended the cushion to 39-14 with 5:40 left in the third quarter.

Tanner Sowards had an 89-yard scoring run and backup Eric Riley went 86 yards on a dive play with 1:57 left to complete the scoring.

Tolsia finished with 348 total yards, but Carroll said that was not indicative of how well the defense played.

“That’s tough on the defense. They played twice as many plays as our offense,” said Carroll. “(Coach) Jeff (Gorby) has done a good job making adjustments during the games.”
