FRANKLIN FURNACE — When a team loses five fumbles, that team is bound to lose the game.

Except in the case of the Green Bobcats.

Despite losing five fumbles last Friday, Green still came away with a 27-14 win over the Hannan (W.Va.) Wildcats.

Green (2-1) lost a fumble with 7:47 left in the first quarter but came right back to score on a 15-yard run by Tyler Hughes with 6:45 on the clock. T.J. McCloud’s conversion kick made it 7-0.

The defense held on downs and marched in for a score as Mike Avery scampered 20 yards for a touchdown at the 3:24 mark and it was 14-0.

Hannan (0-3) cut the deficit to 14-6 on a 5-yard run by Robert Warth early in the second quarter. The Wildcats then recovered another Green fumble at the 1-yard line to stop a scoring threat.

But Green came right back and scored on an 18-yard run by Hughes with 4:18 left in the half and it was 20-6.

The Bobcats had another scoring opportunity dashed when Hannan’s Jason Call recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchback.

Green lost yet another fumble at the Hannan 40-yard line less than two minutes into the second half, but the Bobcats came back later in the quarte to score on an 11-yard run by Cody Bruce and it was 27-6.

Warth had a 40-yard touchdown run with 6:55 to play and Jacob Taylor threw to Daniel Reynolds for the conversion to make it 27-14.
