Sheldon Clark (2-1)

The Dragons face a hot Sheldon Clark team that surprised Johnson Central 22-14 last week and stunned Breathitt County 6-0 in their opener.

The Cardinals rely on the running tandem of Skyles Kristian with 166 yards and Matt Slone with 158. Quarterback Austin Stepp is 22-of-36 for 323 yards. Ray Avery has 8 catches for 114 yards.

Brad Stafford, Channing Smith and B.J. Jarrell lead the defense.

Portsmouth West (2-1)

At Rock Hill (0-3)

The Redmen defense has a simpler task this week compared to last week, but only as far as their preparation.

West prefers a ground attack led by running backs Trevon Pendleton and Mark Murphy. Pendleton had 12 carries for 259 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 34-14 win over South Point. Murphy added 14 carries for 57 yards.

Pendleton (6-1, 225) and Lee Compton (6-1, 205) lead a speedy defense at their linebacker spots.

Chesapeake (1-2) at

Lucasville Valley (2-1)

Chesapeake’s secondary may be tested by Lucasville Valley quarterback Zach Utley who had a strong game last week by completing 11-of-20 passes for 159 yards in a 36-28 loss to Coal Grove.

The Indians’ running game is led by Alex Holcomb and Utley who is a double threat.

Point Pleasant (1-1) at

South Point (0-3)

The Big Blacks didn’t play last week and coach Dave Darst took time to make a few changes after a 17-6 loss to Sissonville that saw them out-rushed 249 to 60. They had more than 300 yards on the ground in a win over Tug Valley.

The Big Blacks will have Jarod Long at fullback while Nathan Roberts moves to halfback and Chris Blankenship takes over at tailback.

Other changes came up front where Casey Hogg moved to center and Gabe Starcher switched to guard.

Symmes Valley (2-1) at

Manchester (0-3)

The new football program at Manchester has shown improvement but still now wins in its second season.

The Greyhounds are led by quarterback Logan Young and running back Adrian Henderson. Both scored last week in a 33-16 loss to Southeastern.

Eric Gaffin is one of Manchester’s top receivers.

Grove City Christian (3-0)

At Green (2-1)

The Grove City Christian Eagles return 10 offensive starters and eight on defense from a 9-1 team.

The offense is led by senior running back Jessie Barns (5-9,170) and quarterback Chris Bowman (6-0, 160. The line is anchored by Jeramie Stump (6-4, 285).

The Eagles won last year’s meeting 27-6.

Villa Angela (1-2)

at Wheelersburg (2-1)

In a Saturday game, Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph will rely on quarterback Darryl Jones (6-4, 205) and multi-talented Anthony Libertini (6-2, 180) to help make of for the loss of 22 seniors from last year’s 5-5 teams.

Libertini plays quarterback, wide receiver, linebacker and defensive back. The Vikings have a speedy group of receivers, but only a few linemen return including Jamal Chatman (6-3, 240), Kevin Koehl (6-3, 240), Toni Rini (6-3,245) and tight end Kawmae Sawyer (6-1, 195).
