PEDRO — A team effort got Rock Hill the lead. Portsmouth West’s Trevon Pendleton took it away.

Pendleton was a one-man wrecking crew as he ran 26 times for 176 yards and scored four touchdowns as the Senators rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the upset-minded Redmen 34-21 Friday.

“We played much better. We played pretty physical. We cut down on giving up big plays. We did a pretty good job on Pendleton except for two big runs and the kickoff return,” said Rock Hill coach Todd Knipp.

Pendleton returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown to put West up 6-0, but the Redmen got a 63-yard return from Steve Lewis to the West 20 that set up a 15-yard scoring strike from Will McCollister to Trey Wilds. Cody Massie kicked the conversion and it was 7-6.

Rock Hill extended its lead to 13-6 in the second quarter on a 47-yard pass-and-run from McCollister to Mitchell Davenport.

West (3-1) answered with a 1-yard plunge by quarterback Levi Ratliff and it was 13-12 at the break.

Wilds and McCollister hooked up again in the third quarter for a 17-yard scoring play and the lead was 21-12 after Lewis ran for the conversion.

Pendleton then began to take over the game.

He had a 1-yard scoring run at the end of the third quarter and also added the conversion to make it 21-20.

Pendleton had a second 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter as West finally regained the lead at 26-21.

The junior fullback added an insurance score when he broke loose on a 49-yard run. Kyle Locher ran for the extra points.

Rock Hill answered by driving to the West 5-yard line but was unable to convert on a fourth down play.

McCollister finished 11-of-24 for 214 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Davenport caught six passes for 158 yards and a score.

Rock Hill (0-4) had two touchdowns called back on penalties.
