Ironton golfers 3rd at SEOAL tourney

LANCASTER — Marietta ended a long drought and thus ended Ironton’s short reign.

Marietta placed three players on the all-league team as they won their first Southeastern Ohio Athletic League golf championship Tuesday.

Warren was second and defending champion Ironton finished third.

Marietta won the event with a team scored of 310 over the 6,241-yard, par 71 Valley View Golf Course. Warren shot a 315 score while Ironton had a combined 323 total.

Rounding out the team scores were Gallipolis at 326, Logan 331, Jackson 343, Portsmouth 3 64 and Chillicothe 371.

Each team had at least one player earn All-SEOAL honors. Warren’s Brandon Fivecoait shot a 1-under to take medalist honors.

Ironton’s Andy Holtzapfel shot a 77 and Jonathan Williams carded a 78 to earn all-league honors. It was the third straight year Holtzapfel has been All-SEOAL.

Mason Weisgarber shot an 82 for the Fighting Tigers (69-6) followed by Josh Cooke with an 86, Josh Zornes 87 and Josh Mullins had an 89.

Ironton visits Portsmouth Clay Thursday.
