Local teacher receives education award

SOUTH POINT — Virtual Community School of Ohio (VCS Ohio) teacher Mary Callicoat of South Point, received the “Student Services Award” at the 2009 VCS Ohio Opening Day ceremony.  Callicoat, a five-year veteran of VCS, teaches special education for grades 7-12. 

Commitment to her students’ success is her number one priority by providing them with positive feedback and recognition while working to meet their individual needs.

“More than expected” was the theme of the Opening Day ceremony, held on Sept. 2 at the Courtyard Columbus West.

A variety of awards were given such as “Teacher of the Quarter” and “External Services Site of the Year.”

“I am very proud of all our teachers and staff members and their achievements in the past year.” stated James McCord, VCS Ohio superintendent.  “They have worked very hard and will continue to make a positive impact on our students.”
