ROME TOWNSHIP — It is a chance to get to ask one of the world’s top actors anything they want.

That’s what drama students at Fairland High School will have the opportunity to do next month when they are part of a videoconferencing with Oscar and Golden Globe winner Tom Hanks.

Hanks is only the second actor to win back-to-back Oscars. His first was in 1993 for his work in “Philadelphia.” The second was for playing Forrest Gump in the movie of the same name.

He also was awarded the Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest civil honor of the U.S. Navy for his work in “Saving Private Ryan.” He has also won multiple Golden Globe awards of both acting and producing.

The special videoconferencing for five schools in Ohio is under the auspices of the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland. Fairland High is the only school in the area participating.

The distance-learning event will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12. Hanks, who will be interviewed by Scott Simon, weekend edition anchor for National Public Radio, will talk about his career and acting techniques. Then students will get to interview the actor.
