HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Two men have been charged with illegally storing sulfuric acid and other hazardous waste at their electroplating business in Beckley.

A federal grand jury in Huntington indicted 43-year-old Rodney T. Hoffman of Charleston and 35-year-old Christopher Shawn Mills of Beckley on Thursday. Each defendant is charged with two counts of storing hazardous waste without a permit between October 2006 and February 2007.

According to the indictment, the men didn’t obtain a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection to store the waste.

The Environmental Protection Agency cleaned up the waste through its Superfund program.
